UP Visayas (UPV) and Xiamen University (XMU), China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote mutual academic cooperation and exchanges between the two higher education institutions.
Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Dr. Harold M. Monteclaro and Prof. Liu Tau represented UPV and Xiamen University, respectively and signed for and on behalf of their respective institutions. The signing took place on November 11, 2023, Xiamen, China during the China-ASEAN Seaweed Cooperation Forum.
Xiamen University is a university affiliated with the Ministry of Education, China located in Fujian province.
Under the agreement, both parties will carry out joint initiatives to foster cooperation in teaching, research, and services for the development and advancement of the seaweed industry in China and the Philippines.
Specifically, the MOU allows for the exchange of academic resources and scholars. UPV and XMU also agreed to collaborate on student and faculty training programs, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops to advance common interests.
The MOU is valid for five years. Present during the MOU signing were Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap and Asst. Prof. Dr. Iris Ann G. Borlongan, dean and faculty member of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, respectively. (With sources from Dr. Iris Ann G. Borlongan)
